The world is full of wonder, and one of its small ones is a cap that finally fits. If you put a tape around your head and it reads 60 cm, you're standing right at the edge of what most shops stock. Most caps are cut for a circumference of about 58 cm, so they perch on top of your head and leave a line across your forehead when you take them off. At 60 cm, "it'll probably work out somehow" isn't a plan. It means XL.

Why a 60 cm head doesn't fit a standard cap
A standard cap has an inside circumference of about 58 cm. On a 60 cm head you notice it straight away. The crown is shallow, the cap sits on top of your head instead of around it, and the strap at the back runs out of adjustment before it closes comfortably. You'll put up with it for a while, but half an hour later there's a red line across your forehead.
There's nothing unusual about that. The average adult male head measures roughly 56 to 58 cm, women roughly 54 to 56 cm. From 59 cm up you're outside what most brands plan for, and from 60 cm you need XL. It isn't a defect. It's a different number.
The shoe comparison says it best. Try on shoes two sizes too small and nobody blames the foot. With caps, people get it backwards. The head is fine. The cap is small.
How to measure so the number is right
- Take a soft tape measure. No tape? A piece of string held against a ruler afterwards does the job.
- Wrap it around your head about 1 cm above your ears and across the middle of your forehead, at the widest point.
- Keep it snug but don't pull. One finger should slide under the tape comfortably.
- Measure with your hair the way you normally wear it under a cap. Not tied up in a bun or a ponytail.
- Measure twice and take the higher figure. One centimetre decides whether a cap fits or pinches.

Which styles work at 60 cm
- Baseball cap: firm shape, structured front panel, a slightly curved brim and a clean line. The most versatile choice, for example the XL baseball cap in black.
- Snapback: a stiffer crown, flat brim, and a plastic closure at the back with plenty of positions even on a bigger head. Keep the brim flat or give it a gentle curve. The full range sits under XL snapbacks.

The material and what follows from it
Our caps are made from organic cotton. It feels good against the skin, follows the shape of your head, and settles in after a few wears without going out of shape. Truckers add mesh across the back panels, because that's the whole reason people reach for a trucker.
On a 60 cm head that leads to one practical thing. Cotton gives a little over time, so if you fasten a cap all the way tight on day one, it'll feel slightly looser a week later. Leave yourself one position spare at the back.
Structured front panels hold the shape on the baseball models, the snapbacks and the truckers. The dad hat is deliberately soft. That's not about quality, it's about the silhouette you want on your head.
How to tell a cap really fits
- You can slide one finger comfortably between your forehead and the cap. Not two, not none.
- No red mark on your forehead when you take it off. A mark means the cap is too small.
- The cap wraps around the sides of your head rather than perching on top.
- Tilt your head back or turn quickly and the cap stays put. If it shifts, it's too loose.
- The closure at the back isn't on the very last position. That would mean you're at the edge of the range.
- The bottom edge sits about 1 cm above your ears, where you took the measurement.
- After an hour of wear, nothing digs in behind your ears or at the sides of your head.
What if you measure more than you expected
This happens more often than you'd think. You expect 60 cm and the tape reads 62 or 63 cm. You're still inside our XL, which is cut for 61 cm and fits from 60 to 63 cm. At the upper end of the range, though, reach for the models with an adjustable buckle. You can tune the fit more finely there.
If you measure above 63 cm, we have one model in XXL for 62 to 65 cm: the black minimalist trucker. Every other style is XL only, and above 65 cm we make nothing. I'd rather say that straight out than have you order blind.
And if you measure 58 cm or less, you don't need to shop with us. Our XL would be loose on you even on the tightest position. Head of Wonder starts where everyone else stops, and that cuts both ways.

- Take XL if ordinary caps sit high on your crown or won't reach the last notch.
- Take XL if an ordinary cap leaves a red mark on your forehead when you take it off.
- Take XL if you're right between two sizes. The bigger one is always the more comfortable one.

Are Head of Wonder caps adjustable?
Yes, all of them. Depending on the model it's either a strapback with a metal buckle or a plastic snapback closure. Both have enough positions to cover the full 60 to 63 cm range, so you can tune the fit to your own head. A well-adjusted cap stays put when you tilt your head back and leaves no mark on your forehead. You should be able to slide one finger comfortably between your forehead and the cap.

We ship from our warehouse in Prague to every country in the European Union. We don't deliver outside the EU yet, so no UK, Switzerland or Norway. Orders go out within two working days. Within the Czech Republic a parcel usually arrives one to two working days after dispatch, elsewhere in the EU roughly three to seven working days. You'll see the exact shipping cost for your address in the basket before you complete the order.
What if the cap doesn't fit me?
You can return it within 14 days of delivery. Email info@headofwonder.com with your name and order number and we'll sort it out. The item has to be unworn and in its original condition, and return postage is on you. We refund by the same method you paid with. And if you're unsure about the size before you buy, write to us first with your head circumference and we'll advise you straight away.
Methodology
I'm working from two sources. The first is Head of Wonder's own order history in Shopify, which I went through in 2026 to see which sizes and styles fit people and what comes back most often. The second is a public reference table converting head circumference in centimetres into letter sizes, which is where the comparison with standard sizes comes from. The 60 to 63 cm range for XL and 62 to 65 cm for XXL are our own construction figures, not an estimate off someone else's table. I ran no survey and no customer research, so you won't find any percentages here.
