The world is full of wonder, and one of its small ones is a cap that finally fits. If you have ever run a tape measure around your head and read 62 cm, you know exactly what I mean. A standard cap perches on top of your skull, digs into your forehead, and the strap runs out of notches long before anything improves.

Why ordinary caps fail on a large head
Most caps on the market are cut for an average head. Shallow crown, short inner circumference, and a strap with just enough positions to tighten but almost none to let out. On a large head you notice it straight away. The cap sits on your skull instead of wrapping around it, the peak tips upward, and the front panel digs into your forehead.
A lot of people blame their own head for this. But it is the same as wearing shoes two sizes too small: the problem is not the foot, it is the shoe. A bigger head is neither a defect nor an exception, fashion has simply overlooked it for a long time. When you fasten a cap on the last notch and it still is not right, the cap is too small. That's all.
Six things that decide the fit
- Crown depth. The crown has to wrap around your head, not balance on it. A deeper cut is the difference between a cap you keep nudging back into place all day and one you forget you are wearing.
- Inner circumference. Our models are built around 61 cm, which covers heads from 60 to 63 cm. This is the measurement that decides whether the cap presses into your forehead.
- Closure range. A metal buckle, a plastic snapback closure and a strapback all need enough positions for a bigger head size. After that, fine-tuning takes one movement.
- Head shape. Some heads are round, some are oval. An adjustable strap handles both, so head shape is not something you need to think about.
- Panel construction. A reinforced front panel holds its shape and the cap keeps looking the same. An unstructured panel does the opposite: it moulds to your head and feels soft from the first minute.
- Peak proportions. Both the length and the curve of the peak have to match a bigger head. A short peak on a large head looks cut off, while the right length balances the whole silhouette.
Five styles and how they behave on a large head
- Baseball cap. A structured cut with a stiff front panel and a gently curved peak. It holds its shape, goes with everything, and it is the safest first choice.
- Snapback. Firm crown, flat peak, city look. Leave the peak flat or bend it a little, entirely up to you.
- Trucker. A firm front panel with mesh at the back. For summer and for travelling it is the most breathable option we make.
- Dad hat. Soft, unstructured, with a lightly curved peak. Put it on and go, nothing needs breaking in or bending.
- Winter beanie. A deeper cut and more material, so it covers your ears and does not creep upward as you walk.
Material: organic cotton and what to expect from it
We sew our caps from organic cotton. It feels good against the skin, it takes the shape of your head, and after a few wears it settles exactly where you want it. Truckers add a polyester mesh at the back, which lets heat and moisture out. Organic cotton and mesh, that's the whole list.
One practical note comes with the material. Cotton gives a little over time, so if you are at the top of the range, the first wear is usually the tightest one. Loosen the strap and adjust it gradually rather than pulling it all the way in on day one.
How to tell a cap fits
- One finger slides comfortably between your forehead and the cap. Less than that is too tight, more and it will shift around.
- No red mark stays on your forehead when you take it off. That mark is the most reliable sign the cap is too small.
- The closure is not on the last notch. You want room to move in both directions, not the outer limit.
- The cap wraps around your head rather than sitting on top of it. If the mirror shows it perched up high, the crown is too shallow.
- The peak stays level and does not tip upward. A rising peak means the crown is pushing the cap forward from behind.
- It stays put when you lean forward or walk quickly. If it slides, take it in by one notch and try again.

XL is the foundation. It is built around a head size of 61 cm and fits comfortably anywhere between 60 and 63 cm. You will find it across all four styles, so you never have to choose between what fits you and what you like. A head size of 62 cm lands in the middle of the range, and it is one of the most common sizes we see.
Above XL there is one extra size for now. The minimalist black trucker and the navy and dark gray minimalist baseball caps also come in XXL for head sizes 62 to 65 cm. Two sizes, chosen deliberately, instead of a sprawling chart. If your tape measure showed somewhere around 64 cm, those are the models you are looking for.
How to measure your head in a minute
- Take a tailor's tape measure. No tape at home? A piece of string you hold against a ruler afterwards works just as well.
- Run it around your head roughly 1 cm above your ears and across the middle of your forehead, so across the widest point.
- Hold the tape snug but do not pull it tight. One finger should fit underneath.
- Wear your hair the way you normally wear it. A bun or braids will skew the result.
- Measure twice and go with the higher number. Even one centimetre matters here.
- Compare the result with our size guide. If you are right on the border, take the larger size. Comfort comes first, always.

Where do you ship from and how long does delivery take?
We ship from our warehouse in Prague to every country in the European Union. Orders leave us within two working days of coming in. In the Czech Republic a parcel usually reaches you a day or two after dispatch, and elsewhere in the EU it typically takes three to seven working days depending on the destination. We do not ship outside the EU yet, so the UK, Switzerland and Norway are not covered.
What if the cap does not fit me?
Write to info@headofwonder.com with your name and order number and we will sort it out. Items can be returned within the statutory period from delivery, unworn and with no signs of use. Return postage is on you. Once the parcel is back with us and we have checked it, we send the refund by the same method you paid with. And if a cap arrives damaged, send a photo and we will replace it without a return.
